Areas to visit in Lima, Peru

Lima is such a beautiful and diverse city. There’s mountains, ruins, beaches, water fountain shows, amazing restaurants and a great nightlife.

Barranco

Known as the bohemian neighborhood in Lima and it stands up to it’s reputation. While walking through Barranco you’ll see art and creativity everywhere. Besides the art, if you’re looking for a great place to go for a nightlife you’re in the right place. The streets are lined with a variety of restaurants and bars to choose from.

Things to do:

Bridge of Sighs

Walk across or under the Bridge of Sighs; a wooden pedestrian bridge that stands 8.5 meters high and stretches 44 meters long.

Sailboat Tour

Cruise through Lima on a sailboat tour. Get spectacular views of the mountains, clouds, the Christ of the Pacific statue, large flock of birds and a amazing sunset. You may also see dolphins or someone jump off a cliff into the ocean. Our tour guide told us about a man that jumps off a cliff into the ocean multiple times a day, and we happen to be sailing by during one of his jumps. If you want a mixture of relaxation and adventure, a sailboat cruise is the way to go.

Street Art

See all of the street art. Almost everywhere you look, there’s art.

Callao District

A colorful neighborhood filled with many shops, restaurants and art.

Things to do:

Callao Monumental

Stroll through Callao Monumental. Only a couple blocks long, it has different shops, art galleries, restaurants and bakeries. Everything is so bright and colorful.

Real Felipe Fortress

Explore the Real Felipe Fortress. The Real Felipe Fortress was built in the 18th century to defend the city of Lima and the Peruvian port from pirates and invaders. It’s now a museum and open to the public.

Miraflores

Known as one of the safest neighborhoods in Lima, Miraflores is an amazing place to visit. Miraflores has so many things to do and see. I actually stood there for a week and was able to explore Miraflores. Everything was conveniently close to my airbnb.

Things to do:

Circuito De Playa

Walk, run, hike, bike or drive along the Circuito De Playa, which is 13 miles long. Circuito De Playa consists of multiple beaches lined up one after the next.

Huaca Pucllana

Checkout the Huaca Pucllana clay pyramid, located in the center of Miraflores.

Kennedy Park

Cat watch and relax in Kennedy Park. Known for the dozens of cats that live in the park, Kennedy Park is a great place for cat lovers. The cats are very important to the locals, they leave food in bowls around the park to feed the cats. If you’re not going for the cats, you’ll still enjoy yourself. You can checkout the local vendors and artists in the park. There’s also many shops and restaurants surrounding the park.

Larcomar Mall

Shop at Larcomar, a large outdoor shopping center that overlooks the ocean. Larcomar is filled with a variety of clothing, sneakers and jewelry stores, there’s also a variety of restaurants and dessert shops.

Maido

Eat at Maido, voted number 7 of the top 50 best restaurants in the world. They have an amazing veggie a la carte menu, with 11 courses. All 11 courses were very different and were very creative. Not only did they look good, but they tasted delicious. The food, decor, ambience and service was amazing. Definitely a great restaurant to put on your list of places you should go.

Paratriking

Soar through the sky in a paratrike. Simular to paragliding, paratriking is done with a parasail. But instead of being dependent solely on the wind, paratriking depends on a motor. I experienced this with Aeroxtreme Paragliding/Paratriking Lima, and it was an amazing experience. If you book the first session of the day, you can meet them at their headquarters in Miraflores and drive with them to the location where the paratrike will take off.

Parque Antonio Raimondi

Parque de Amor

Watch the sunset or relax at the Parque de Amor. Parque de Amor is a beautiful park on the Malecon de Miraflores that overlooks the ocean.
