The colorful Isla de Flores

Isla de Flores is a cute and colorful man made Island on Lake Petén Itzá. It’s connected to the mainland of Guatemala by a bridge that leads to Santa Elena. It’s very easy to get to Isla de Flores. There are buses that can take you to the island and drop you off in front of the colorful YO AMO PETEN sign, which is located at the entrance of the island.

What to do on the island

Eat at one of the many restaurants

There are a variety of restaurants on the island to satisfy different dietary needs. I went to Nativo Restaurante and ordered the vegan Ceviche; it was delicious. The restaurant has seats with waterfront views. I also went to Terrazzo, Ristorante E Bar, which looks tropical on the inside. I ordered the mixed grilled veggies and it was really good.

Stroll the Malecon and through the colorful streets

To walk the entire perimeter of the island, it takes about twenty minutes. The streets are filled with colorful restaurants, buildings, art, and parked vehicles. There’s also cute passageways in between some of the buildings that goes from the street to the waterfront. I went to Isla de Flores in March and there weren’t a lot of people strolling through the streets.

Take pictures with the YO AMO PETEN sign

One of the first things you will see when entering the island is the YO AMO PETEN sign. This sign is also the meet up spot for many tours that are departing from Isla de Flores.
