Renting a Golf Cart in San Pedro, Belize

Renting a golf cart is a popular and convenient thing to do in San Pedro. With so many things to do and places to go in San Pedro, golf carts makes getting around much easier.

Renting my golf cart

When I got off of the ferry in San Pedro, a guy instantly came up to me and asked me if I wanted to rent a golf cart. I’ve never driven a golf cart before so even though I knew I may need it, I wasn’t completely sure. But I decided to go check out them out. When we arrived at the golf cart shop, he showed me the golf carts and told me the rental prices. I told the guy I would need it for two and a half days and was quoted $125.

I ended up paying for the golf cart, because I knew I was going to need it. He showed me where the gas goes, how to start, stop, and reverse. Then he showed me how to park it, where to park it and how to lock it up. Locking it up after parking is very important, because if not, that’s how they can get stolen.

During my stay on San Pedro Island I realized that the golf carts prices varied depending on where you rented. I know someone who received a lower quote than mine from one of the airports. Then received an higher quote than mine from a hostel.

My first time driving it

I was super nervous my first time driving it. I honestly started second thinking my decision to rent it in the first place. But since I already had it, I decided I was going to try. What’s the worse thing that can happen, right???

I used Google Maps to get around, and the first thing I had to do was make a U turn. The streets were so busy with golf carts driving in every direction. I patiently waited until traffic slowed down, and made a U turn. Immediately after making that U turn I started feeling a little more comfortable. The roads were pretty bumpy, but it added to the experience for me. On my way to my Airbnb I made a couple of wrong turns, but I eventually made it. It took me about twenty minutes to drive from the center of San Pedro to my Airbnb.

Tips

I highly recommend renting a golf cart on San Pedro Island. It made traveling to and from places extremely convenient. I absolutely love walking but it would’ve taken too long and was too hot to walk everywhere on the island. I stayed at Belize Vacation Rentals by Vacasa, and was only a four minute drive from The Truck Stop, which is a great food truck park, a ten minute drive from the San Pedro Belize Express ferry and a thirty minute drive from Secret Beach. If I had to walk to Secret Beach, it would’ve take about two and half hours.

If you have time check out different golf cart rentals, you’ll probably get a better deal.

Make sure to lock your golf cart everytime you park it, even if it’s only for one minute and don’t leave anything personal with it.
