Staying active while traveling doesn’t have to feel like a workout, it can be part of your adventure. Whether you’re strolling the city, hiking a mountain, participating in a biking tour, or swimming at your hotel, there are many fun ways to keep your body moving without going to a gym.
Biking
Biking can be done for a variety of reasons while traveling. Such as biking for fun, a biking tour, and biking for transportation. Either way you bike, adding biking to your trip will not only burn calories but will provide flexibility in transportation and may also save you money. It’s best to first find out if your travel destination is bike friendly. If not, it’s okay, there are plenty of other ways to stay active.
City walking tours
City walking tours are an amazing way to stay active and also see highlights of a city. There are many group city tours available in different destinations. There’s also the option to do a self guided walking tour where you create the tour and do it at your own time and pace.

Check out some of these walking tours:
Lima: Small Group City Walking Tour with Catacombs Ticket
Medellín: Comuna 13 Graffiti Tour w/Street Food & Cable Car
NYC: Soho, Little Italy, and Chinatown Guided Tour
Dancing
If you’re into culture like me, then dancing is at the top of your list of things to learn while traveling. Many destinations have dance classes, lounges, and socials. These are great opportunities for travelers to be active while immersing themselves into that destinations culture and learning their style of dance.

Hiking
Hiking can sound intimidating to some people, but there are a variety of trails to hike for different skill levels and interests. I hiked the trails in Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve in North Carolina and they are considered easy. But I also hiked the trails in Tikal National Park in Guatemala, and the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru and both of those are considered moderate challenging. So it all depends on what’s most comfortable to you and/or how much you want to challenge yourself.

SCuba Diving & Snorkeling
Scuba diving and snorkeling are two activities that can be done if you enjoy being in the ocean. Many destinations offer scuba diving and/or snorkeling tours. There are even some underwater museums you can visit like MUSA which is located in Quintana Roo, Mexico and the Museum of Underwater Art which is located in Townsville, Australia. If you’re in Belize, you can even go scuba diving in one of the most iconic natural wonders of the world, the Great Blue Hole.

Swimming
Whether you enjoy swimming in a pool or ocean, swimming is a great way to be active, as well as staying cool. If swimming in a pool is more your thing, then maybe you can stay at a lodge with a pool. If swimming in a ocean is what you prefer, then maybe you can stay at a lodge that’s close to a beach. If that isn’t practical for you, then add a reasonable amount of time for the beach in your itinerary.
