A Peaceful Escape: Exploring St. Vincent Botanical Garden

St. Vincent Botanical Garden is a 20-acre park located in Kingstown. It’s about a 9-minute drive or a 30-minute walk from the Kingstown Ferry Terminal. Exploring St. Vincent Botanical Garden can take about one to two hours and entry is $5 EC ($2 USD) per person. You can buy your ticket at the Botanical Garden.

Tours

You can do a selfguided tour through the Botanical Garden or you can do a tour with a knowledgeable guide. I originally didn’t see the point in doing a tour with a guide, but another visitor highly suggested it, so I decided to go with it. After experiencing the Botanical Garden with a tour guide, I also highly suggest it. If you want to book a tour guide, you can do it at the Botanical Garden. The cost for a tour guide is $10 EC ($6 USD) per person.

The tour guide explained in great detail what each tree, plant, and flower was, he let us smell different plants and guess what it was, he swung on a vine and allowed us to swing as well, he made a butterfly out of a leaf, he took photos of us, and more. There are also some tours that goes to the Botanical Garden but also other places such as Dark View Falls, Fort Charlotte, and a City Tour. Check out these combo tours:

Things to do

There are many things to do at St. Vincent Botanical Garden. Such as take photos of and with the “I love St. Vincent and the Grenadines” sign, smell and learn about the different flowers and plants, sit on one of the many benches to relax and admire the beauty of the wide variety of tropical plants, swing on a vine like Tarzan, and see the national bird, which is the St. Vincent parrot.

One of the most memorable parts for me was swinging on a vine, because I’ve never done it before. I honestly didn’t even know that we could do that because usually at Botanical Gardens, you’re not supposed to touch the flowers and plants. But the tour guide swung on a vine and then asked if I wanted to do it, and I just couldn’t say no. Now, I don’t have a lot of upperbody strength (I’m currently working on it), so I was super excited to just be able to hold myself up and swing a little. I left the Botanical Garden feeling proud of myself.

A peaceful escape

If you enjoy getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city, I highly recommend adding exploring St. Vincent Botanical Garden to your St. Vincent and the Grenadines itinerary. Definitely if you like the beauty and tranquility of gardens, and love learning and trying new things. You can spend hours there just strolling, relaxing, and taking it all in.
