Vegan Travel Diary: Eating Vegan in Aruba

A vegan burger at On The Rocks Craft Kitchen and Bar restaurant in Palm Beach, Aruba.

I did a lot of research regarding vegan options in Aruba, and was super happy when I was actually able to make a list of restaurants to check out. I’ve visited other islands in the past 2 years, where I struggled to find vegan options, so I was happy that this one was different. I will get into more details regarding the places I traveled to and struggled as a vegan, but in another post. Here’s a list of the restaurants I ate at while in Aruba:

Cubas Cookin’

Cuba’s Cookin’ is a Cuban restaurant located in the Renaissance Marketplace in Oranjestad. If you’re looking for live nightly music (starts at 7pm), a place for a date or for a group outing, great food (even a variety of vegan options) and great service, Cuba’s Cookin’ is a great place to go. It’s also only a 3 minute walk to the Historical Museum of Aruba and a 5 minute walk to the Seaport Casino.

Walking inside of Cuba’s Cookin’ almost felt like a museum because of all of the art work on the walls. There’s art everywhere.

Elements Restaurant

Elements Restaurant is an adults only restaurant located in the Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort in Oranjestad. There are two options when making reservations for this restaurant. You can either make reservations at the main restaurant or for a secluded cabin for a romantic private dinner. The secluded cabanas are on the sand of Manchebo Beach facing the ocean. The romantic private dinner is a 6 course meal for only two people and cost $195 per couple.

My boyfriend and I went to Aruba for our anniversary and because we wanted something romantic, we decided to make reservations for the romantic private dinner. I originally wanted to book the sunset time slot, which was around 6:30pm but it was already full. The only time available on the date we wanted, was 8pm, so that’s the time slot we reserved.

The great thing about Elements Restaurant, is that they have an entire vegan 6 course menu. We were able to choose from two different options for each course. The food was delicious and very presentable.

Garden Fresh Cafe

Garden Fresh Cafe was the first restaurant I went to when I arrived to Aruba. I was super hungry and couldn’t wait to eat. I originally was looking forward to trying the Just Egg Wrap, but they didn’t have anymore Just Egg at the time. So I decided to order the acai bowl and a green smoothie. The acai bowl and the smoothie were both good and refreshing. I still want to try the Just Egg Wrap the next time I’m in Aruba.

On The Rocks Craft Kitchen and Bar

On The Rocks Craft Kitchen and Bar is located in Noord, Palm Beach. We came across On The Rocks Craft Kitchen and Bar while strolling on J.E. Irausquin Blvd looking for a restaurant with vegan options, and I specifically wanted a burger. After looking at about four other restaurant’s menus I started to lose a little bit of hope. But then we checked this restaurant’s menu and I was excited… it actually had a vegan burger… yes. So we decided to eat here for dinner and wasn’t disappointed.

We enjoyed the burger so much, that the next day we went back for lunch. I’m already planning to go back there the next time we’re in Aruba.

Passions On The Beach

Passions On The Beach is located in Noord on Eagle Beach. It has two different seating options. If it’s a dinner reservation for 2, you will be seated in the front row facing the ocean. The front row has a table and two chairs. For groups with more than 2 people, your group will be seated one of the tables behind the front row. There are some tables that sit six people and some that sit eight people.

There were a couple of vegan options on the menu. I decided to get the pasta, and it was delicious. It was a beautiful experience to eat my pasta and drink my virgin pina colada, while watching the sunset. Our waitress even gave us a free serving of sorbet and put a fireworks candle on our table for our anniversary.
